Welcome to the Leeds City Council Air Pollution Monitoring site. The Council operates a
monitoring network to gather information used to review and assess air quality within the Leeds
area.
The Government has identified 7 pollutants that Local Authorities need to consider when assessing
air quality : nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulphur dioxide
(SO2), carbon monoxide (CO), PM10 particles, lead, benzene and
1,3 butadiene. Information on all these pollutants (with the exception of lead) can be found within
these pages. Not all stations measure all pollutants; benzene and 1,3 butadiene information can
only be found in the ratified database. In addition to the Council sites, data from the Leeds Centre
site (operated on behalf of central government) are presented. This site also measures ozone.
The maps on this page show the permanent monitoring stations. Clicking on the site names gives
access to the results for the last 7 days although the time period can be changed. It is also
possible to download data in Excel format. Recent data may be subject to slight changes during auditing procedures.
The 'Station Info' section summarises the nature of each of the monitoring sites, current or closed and indicates the
pollutants measured and period during which each site has been operational.
As well as presenting ratified (audited) data from current sites, the 'Ratified Data' section also includes
data from sites which are now closed. Detailed examination of some of the data is possible, for example diurnal
(daily) and annual variations.
